Animal League Defense Fund's

2016 U.S. Animal Protection Laws

The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), a national organization,  recently announced the publication of the 2016 U.S. ANIMAL PROTECTION LAWS RANKINGS REPORT, their eleventh annual report that surveys animal protection laws of all U.S. states and territories.   Maintaining ALDF's 15 different ranking categories, WI moved up in rankings from 44th to 30th.   Best five for animals:  Illinois, Oregon, Maine, California, & Rhode Island.  Worst five for animals: North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Iowa & Kentucky.  (Link here for pdf)

2015 U.S. Animal Protection Laws

The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), a national organization,  recently announced the publication of the 2015 U.S. ANIMAL PROTECTION LAWS RANKINGS REPORT, their tenth annual report that surveys animal protection laws of all U.S. states and territories. It reflects examination of over 4,000 pages of statutes assessing the strength of each state’s animal protection laws.   They have fifteen different categories of animal protection used to rank each state accordingly.    In 2014, Wisconsin ranked 36th, the middle tier, and in 2015 WI dropped down to 44th, the bottom tier.  (Link here for pdf)

"This chapter contains Wisconsin’s general animal protection and related statutes with an effective date on or before September 1, 2014. It begins with a detailed overview of the provisions contained in these laws, followed by the full text of the statutes themselves. The various provisions are organized into categories. The penalties and related provisions for categories 12 and 13 are generally located within each of those respective sections."
